+One of the beautiful things about aging is you carry along the wisdom of years of experience (that, and your wine gets better of course). By many standards you could easily call me but a pup in the great dog-park of life, but as our multi-year journey in RVing progresses I have managed to glean a few gems of sageness which I can happily pass along. In that spirit, here are 10 things I wish I’d known before we went full-timing:

+Our dealer has been good to us
+Steve C. wrote us about his excellent dealer and RV service center near Raleigh, North Carolina. “We live in Wake Forest, NC, just north of the capitol city of Raleigh. Within 25 miles we have probably 8 to 10 RV dealers, all with service centers. We chose a dealer close to home in Youngsville, NC, Shaw RV. We’ve found Shaw to be knowledgeable and friendly in all departments, and have gone on to buy our second camper from them as well, North Trail 28RKDS.
+“We have had some minor issues with trim pieces as well as a flaw in the front cap. All has been taken care of without issue and Shaw had to get involved with manufacturer Heartland about the front cap issue but had it resolved and had it repaired as promised. They even actually did a couple of small things FREE of charge. They have been great to deal with and I have taken on some smaller issues myself. So far our dealer has been good to us.”

+You don't necessarily need a special kind of vehicle to hit the road for overnight adventures. Learning how to camp in your car like a pro can be a good alternative for some people. But you're likely to enjoy more comfort and convenience in a camper or a recreational vehicle (RV). And, yes, there's a difference between the two: the former can't be driven independently, while the latter can.
+Older sources may boil this down to the fact that one has a drive system and the other doesn't, but that definition comes up short today. Ex-Tesla engineers have created a camping trailer with its own electric motor. Yet, it would technically remain a camper because you still can't drive it on its own. Generally speaking, campers can be smaller and less expensive than RVs. Campers often come with fewer creature comforts, too — although that's not always a negative, as it can allow for a closer-to-nature approach to camping.
+The tricky part is that, on another level, a camper is an RV. The RV Industry Association says that an RV is "a vehicular-type unit primarily designed as temporary living quarters ... that either has its own motor power or is mounted on, or towed by, another vehicle." A truck with a camper in its bed fits the definition, but it's not the same as the sort of RV we're comparing those campers to. Those are also known as motor homes, and they come with their own set of distinctive traits.

+Remember when the American Dream was a white picket fence and a house in the suburbs? Not these days. Skyrocketing housing prices, student loan debt, and a desire to stick it to the man have led many to choose alternatives like tiny homes, custom-built camper vans, and RVs. RV living can offer more freedom, a less cluttered, minimalist lifestyle, and a chance to break free from the tethers of a 30-year mortgage and the tyranny of the Homeowners Association. All of which has led to growing appeal amongst younger digital nomads. Unfortunately, though, some states have a problem with folks choosing to set up their RV on private land and call it a permanent home.
+The issue usually isn't whether or not you own the RV or the land. The issue is zoning, and if the governing body considers an RV a dwelling.  Even if you own several quiet acres, the local zoning laws may not consider RVs permanent dwellings or allow people living in any structure not connected to public utilities. Health and safety codes may have sewage requirements and square footage minimums, leaving even large, luxurious modern RVs with their solar generators and fancy composting toilets off the list.

+But first, Rockwood. Both Forest River and Thor offer a variety of choices and a variety of levels of features and build quality. These companies want to appeal to buyers where those buyers want to be, so there are models built for price and models built for more function and feature. Rockwood is at the top of the Forest River family, so it may come as a surprise that they make pop-up trailers at all.

The new B+ motorhome provides an inviting experience for first-time RVers, piling up details aimed at making the transition to RV life as approachable and intuitive as driving a new car. Plus, the price tag is tens of thousands less than several of Winnebago's camper vans. The new platform makes it easier to embrace life on the move and adapt to whatever unexpected twists the open road throws out next.
+Two products or one? Winnebago explains that "Elora" and "Resa" are two individual names for the same product, a tradition at the company evidenced by existing lines like the View/Navion. The two models will, of course, receive individual badging and perhaps some small aesthetic distinctions, but they're ultimately the same motorhome with the same features through and through. Since the debut model is very clearly labeled "Elora," that's the name we'll stick with. Nothing personal against Resa, but she will not be mentioned here again.
