+GRANT COUNTY — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says it is seeing an increase in electric motorcycles being operated on county roads and city streets, prompting a public reminder about a new Washington law that more clearly separates legal electric-assisted bicycles from electric motorcycles and other motor vehicles.
+Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6110 takes effect Thursday, June 11, and updates Washington’s definition of an electric-assisted bicycle. The law comes as powerful electric two-wheel vehicles have grown in popularity statewide, especially among teenagers and young adults.
+The Sheriff’s Office said many riders and families may not realize that some electric motorcycles do not qualify as e-bikes under state law and may instead be regulated as motorcycles, mopeds or other motor vehicles.
+“Our goal is education, prevention, and safety,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. “We recognize that many riders and families may not be aware of how state law classifies these vehicles or what requirements apply.”
+Under the new law, an electric-assisted bicycle in Washington must have fully operable pedals, an electric motor rated at 750 watts or less and meet one of the state’s three e-bike classifications.
+Class 1 e-bikes provide motor assistance only while the rider is pedaling and stop assisting once the bicycle reaches 20 mph. Class 2 e-bikes may be powered by the motor alone but cannot provide assistance above 20 mph. Class 3 e-bikes provide assistance only while the rider is pedaling, stop assisting at 28 mph and must be equipped with a speedometer.

+When many riders hear about a new electric motorcycle, they tend to compare it to the flagship machines that dominate the headlines. Bikes like those from Zero or LiveWire have shown that electric motorcycles can be fast, powerful, and technologically impressive. They’ve also shown that they can be expensive.
+But a much more interesting battle may be happening lower down the power scale.
+Recent news that LiveWire has begun production of its upcoming S4 Honcho has put the spotlight on what many people are calling a “125cc-equivalent” electric motorcycle. That description can be a little confusing because electric motorcycles don’t really have engine displacement. There are no pistons moving up and down, after all, and so there aren’t any cc’s to speak of.
+Instead, “125cc-equivalent” is really a way to describe the overall riding experience using legacy language from the olden times, when motorcycles relied on repeated small explosions for locomotion.
+Those descriptors put electric motorcycles in classes roughly comparable in speed and power to gasoline-powered motorcycles.
+While LiveWire hasn’t yet listed the exact motor spec, the upcoming S4 Honcho is expected to top out at around 59 mph (95 km/h), making it a machine built primarily for urban riding, suburban commuting, and shorter hops on smaller highways. It isn’t really intended to spend hours cruising down an interstate at 75 mph (120 km/h). In that sense, it occupies much the same role as a traditional 125cc gasoline motorcycle.

+Online bike configurators are usually pretty good tools for discovering just how quickly a reasonably priced bike can become unreasonably expensive. Pick a color, add some heated grips, click the luggage box that costs more than your first motorcycle, and congratulations, you've configured a BMW GS.
+And now, a new Belgian EV startup by the name of ANY Mobility has apparently decided this process doesn't involve nearly enough clicking.
+ANY has opened the online configurator for its upcoming LUV1, and calling this thing customizable might be underselling it. Instead of simply picking colors and accessories, you're effectively rearranging chunks of the motorcycle around what you plan to do with it. It's less like speccing a motorcycle and more like wandering through IKEA deciding whether your weird Scandinavian shelving system needs another basket. Except this one does 62 miles per hour.

+Industry giants like Royal Enfield, Honda, Hero MotoCorp, TVS, and Bajaj control a big chunk of this market. But that hasn't deterred EV startups from popping up from time to time.
+Today, we look at one such manufacturer, called Avore, and its quirky new commuter e-bike. Called the EX2S, it’s unlike most motorcycles you’d spot in the West. It focuses on daily commuting, utility, and affordable entry-level mobility.
+Powering the bike is a 5-kWh battery that offers a claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of around 161 miles (260 km). Keep in mind real-world range is typically around 20% lower than official IDC figures. That means you’re looking at around 125 miles (200 km) of usable real-world range in city traffic conditions, which isn't bad at all for a bike this size.

+The lines between e-bikes and electric motorcycles have gotten so blurry that it’s becoming harder to tell where one ends and the other begins. Some electric bikes add tiny pedals so they can squeeze into friendlier regulations. Others pile on power until they’re basically motorcycles with an identity crisis. Then there’s Beachman’s new Aviator, which somehow manages to sit right in the middle of that Venn diagram without looking confused about it.

It has low clip-on handlebars, a round headlight, twin analog gauges, a long bench seat, and proportions that could’ve rolled straight out of the 1960s. +Evoke Motorcycles is hoping to change that with its newly unveiled 2027 Evoke Nrgy, a lightweight electric motorcycle targeting a starting price of just $4,995.
+And unlike many lower-cost electric two-wheelers, this one is actually designed to handle the highway.
+The new Evoke Nrgy tops out at 120 km/h (75 mph), putting it comfortably above typical urban electric motorcycles and scooters and giving riders enough speed for a mix of city, suburban, and highway riding.
+That aligns it with other popular light electric motorcycles like Ryvid Anthem, going beyond the realm of overpowered electric mopeds and allowing true highway jaunts.
