+GRANT COUNTY — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says it is seeing an increase in electric motorcycles being operated on county roads and city streets, prompting a public reminder about a new Washington law that more clearly separates legal electric-assisted bicycles from electric motorcycles and other motor vehicles.
+Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6110 takes effect Thursday, June 11, and updates Washington’s definition of an electric-assisted bicycle. The law comes as powerful electric two-wheel vehicles have grown in popularity statewide, especially among teenagers and young adults.
+The Sheriff’s Office said many riders and families may not realize that some electric motorcycles do not qualify as e-bikes under state law and may instead be regulated as motorcycles, mopeds or other motor vehicles.
+“Our goal is education, prevention, and safety,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. “We recognize that many riders and families may not be aware of how state law classifies these vehicles or what requirements apply.”
+Under the new law, an electric-assisted bicycle in Washington must have fully operable pedals, an electric motor rated at 750 watts or less and meet one of the state’s three e-bike classifications.
+Class 1 e-bikes provide motor assistance only while the rider is pedaling and stop assisting once the bicycle reaches 20 mph. Class 2 e-bikes may be powered by the motor alone but cannot provide assistance above 20 mph. Class 3 e-bikes provide assistance only while the rider is pedaling, stop assisting at 28 mph and must be equipped with a speedometer.

+When many riders hear about a new electric motorcycle, they tend to compare it to the flagship machines that dominate the headlines. Bikes like those from Zero or LiveWire have shown that electric motorcycles can be fast, powerful, and technologically impressive. They’ve also shown that they can be expensive.
+But a much more interesting battle may be happening lower down the power scale.
+Recent news that LiveWire has begun production of its upcoming S4 Honcho has put the spotlight on what many people are calling a “125cc-equivalent” electric motorcycle. That description can be a little confusing because electric motorcycles don’t really have engine displacement. There are no pistons moving up and down, after all, and so there aren’t any cc’s to speak of.
+Instead, “125cc-equivalent” is really a way to describe the overall riding experience using legacy language from the olden times, when motorcycles relied on repeated small explosions for locomotion.
+Those descriptors put electric motorcycles in classes roughly comparable in speed and power to gasoline-powered motorcycles.
+While LiveWire hasn’t yet listed the exact motor spec, the upcoming S4 Honcho is expected to top out at around 59 mph (95 km/h), making it a machine built primarily for urban riding, suburban commuting, and shorter hops on smaller highways. It isn’t really intended to spend hours cruising down an interstate at 75 mph (120 km/h). In that sense, it occupies much the same role as a traditional 125cc gasoline motorcycle.

Pick a color, add some heated grips, click the luggage box that costs more than your first motorcycle, and congratulations, you've configured a BMW GS.
+And now, a new Belgian EV startup by the name of ANY Mobility has apparently decided this process doesn't involve nearly enough clicking.
+ANY has opened the online configurator for its upcoming LUV1, and calling this thing customizable might be underselling it. Instead of simply picking colors and accessories, you're effectively rearranging chunks of the motorcycle around what you plan to do with it. It's less like speccing a motorcycle and more like wandering through IKEA deciding whether your weird Scandinavian shelving system needs another basket. Except this one does 62 miles per hour.

+For the world's largest motorcycle and two-wheeler market, you have an overwhelming number of options, considering more than 20 million units are sold annually. I’m talking about India, whose two-wheeler market is showing no signs of slowing down, with retail sales surging year-on-year.
+Industry giants like Royal Enfield, Honda, Hero MotoCorp, TVS, and Bajaj control a big chunk of this market. But that hasn't deterred EV startups from popping up from time to time.
+Today, we look at one such manufacturer, called Avore, and its quirky new commuter e-bike. Called the EX2S, it’s unlike most motorcycles you’d spot in the West. It focuses on daily commuting, utility, and affordable entry-level mobility.
+Powering the bike is a 5-kWh battery that offers a claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of around 161 miles (260 km). Keep in mind real-world range is typically around 20% lower than official IDC figures. That means you’re looking at around 125 miles (200 km) of usable real-world range in city traffic conditions, which isn't bad at all for a bike this size.

Some electric bikes add tiny pedals so they can squeeze into friendlier regulations. Others pile on power until they’re basically motorcycles with an identity crisis. Then there’s Beachman’s new Aviator, which somehow manages to sit right in the middle of that Venn diagram without looking confused about it.

It has low clip-on handlebars, a round headlight, twin analog gauges, a long bench seat, and proportions that could’ve rolled straight out of the 1960s. +And unlike many lower-cost electric two-wheelers, this one is actually designed to handle the highway.
+The new Evoke Nrgy tops out at 120 km/h (75 mph), putting it comfortably above typical urban electric motorcycles and scooters and giving riders enough speed for a mix of city, suburban, and highway riding.
+That aligns it with other popular light electric motorcycles like Ryvid Anthem, going beyond the realm of overpowered electric mopeds and allowing true highway jaunts.

The video shows off the new e-motorcycle on test rides in Europe and teases the date, September 16, when Honda will presumably introduce it. Plans to expand Honda's lineup of electric motorcycles have been in the works since at least 2022, when the company announced it would release "10 or more" e-motorcycles by 2025.
+The new motorcycle is under a wrap of black and white camouflage in the video, but Electrek writes that it shares a striking resemblance to the "EV Fun Concept" motorcycle Honda introduced at EICMA 2024, a motorcycle trade show in Milan. At the time, Honda said the boxy concept was designed to offer "performance equivalent to a mid-sized internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle" and be compatible with CCS2 quick chargers, an EV fast charging standard in Europe. It also has "a cruising range of over 100km," according to Honda.

And while there’s a lot to like about the bike on paper, one particular number stands out so much that it almost overshadows everything else.
+I’m talking, of course, about the range rating.
+But let’s get all the other new tech specs out of the way first.
+The Flying Flea C6 is powered by a 15.4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering up to 60 Nm of torque. That’s enough to push the lightweight 124 kg (273 lb) bike from 0 to 60 km/h (37 mph) in just 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 115 km/h (71 mph). For a small, urban-focused electric motorcycle, those are solid numbers that should make it feel quick and responsive in city traffic.
+Basically, the bike landed pretty much where we all thought it would in terms of speed and power, putting it in the Goldilocks zone for small commuter electric motorcycles.
+The bike is also fairly tech-heavy for something in this segment. It comes with features like cornering ABS, traction control, ride modes (including customizable settings), a touchscreen TFT display with smartphone connectivity, navigation via Google, and even wireless phone charging. Lighting is fully LED, and the design leans heavily into a retro-inspired aesthetic, including a girder-style front fork and a minimalist, floating seat.

But only one two-wheeler company can boast of being the world’s largest EV manufacturer (by volume): Yadea.
+The Chinese company sells more than 6 million electric two-wheelers in more than 80 countries every year. In comparison, America’s biggest electric vehicle (EV) company, Tesla, sold under 2 million units globally last year: 1,789,226 to be precise.
+Wuxi-based Yadea recently unveiled four motorcycles at the freshly concluded Motorcycle Live show, with the intention of bringing them all to Europe. The roll-out starts with the UK, thanks to a distribution deal with British tech mobility startup True Enterprises, which will take responsibility for sales and support.
+The four Yadea models on display at the expo were the GFX – an entry-level moped, Owin – a no-frills commuter scooter, Velax – a modern-styled urban scooter, and Keeness – a proper electric motorcycle.

+Zero Motorcycles has officially confirmed prices for its all-new XE and XB electric dirtbikes, which were first revealed as part of the brand’s “All Access Initiative”. More new models will be introduced in the future as part of the initiative.
+The California-based electric bike maker revealed the two new models towards the end of 2024, and at the time we expected the bikes to arrive with a competitive price tag. That’s exactly what has happened, with the XB model featuring an MSRP of £3,890.
+The XE will cost you £5,590, with much of the price bump coming thanks to the increased power, range, and top speed.
+The XB uses a 2.4kWh battery to produce 9.8bhp and a massive 275 Ib-ft of torque. The bike’s range lasts 47 miles at continuous rolling speeds of 31mph, while the XE has a range of 65 miles, again at 31mph. The more expensive XE model also produces 21bhp and 468 Ib-ft of torque.
