Check out Juiced Bikes’ new 1,000W e-bike motors for the 30+ MPH HyperScorpion

Micah Toll - May. 24th 2020 9:36 am ET

Thanks to a recent update from Juiced Bikes on the current state of their HyperScorpion electric bike production, we’re getting our first detailed look at the bike’s custom-designed 1,000 W motor.

The HyperScorpion was first unveiled last year as the upgraded version of Juiced’s standard Scorpion electric bike.

The moped-style electric bicycle is marketed as having a top speed of “30+ mph” (51+ km/h) and a rear hub motor rated for 1,000 W.

Now we’re learning that the special motor was a joint development between Juiced Bikes and the Chinese electric bicycle component manufacturer Bafang.

Review: The Juiced CrossCurrent X is a 28+mph e-bike with fantastic range

A standout commuter e-bike at a reasonable price

Napier Lopez - October 31, 2019

I am convinced personal electric vehicles like e-bikes and e-scooters are the best way to get around a crowded metropolis like New York City. No vehicle has convinced me more than the Juiced Bikes !CrossCurrent X.

This $2,500 e-bike is a standout commuter vehicle, checking off a formidable list of features at a price that won’t break the bank – at least relative to other e-bikes with similar features, which can easily venture past four grand. 28+ mph adjustable top speed? Check. Real-world range of 70 miles for an average rider? Check. Ultra-durable tires? Check. Both smooth pedal assist and throttle operation? Check. A sturdy rear rack, front suspension, hydraulic brakes, a bright integrated headlight? Check.

Juiced Hyperscorpion ebike gets cheekily close to motorcycle territory

By Loz Blain - July 14, 2020

One of the most interesting and exciting segments of the emerging ebike market is the rapidly blurring border between ebikes and mopeds. These are not waters swum by passionate cyclists; these things are for practically-minded commuter types interested in genuine car replacement options.

This Labor Day, save big on a new e-bike with up to $700 off at Juiced Bikes

Micah Toll - Sep. 5th 2020 12:47 pm ET

Considering current events, this Labor Day likely won’t be celebrated quite like last year, with big picnics and group outings. Instead of packed crowds this year, you could be using your day off to explore the great outdoors on a fast and fun electric bicycle.

What’s that? You don’t have an electric bicycle yet? Well if you want to join the millions of people experiencing the benefits of e-bikes then you might still be in luck this Labor Day by taking advantage of some big sales!

Interestingly, we’re seeing fewer big sales for electric bicycles this Labor Day than we did last year. That’s not likely because e-bikes are less popular — in fact, it’s the exact opposite.

Electrek’s ebike of the year is the 33mph Juiced HyperScorpion

Seth Weintraub - Dec. 31st 2020 11:43 am E

The year 2020 wasn’t horrible for everyone. For the companies that make electric bikes, a convenient, inexpensive, and fun way to avoid public transportation, business was so good that supply chain shortages made their products hard to find. Many companies we spoke with had record years.

It’s the move of ebikes into micromobility that has been the bigger trend for 2020, and our ebike of the year winner has highlighted this trend.

Congratulations to the Juiced HyperScorpion, a 33mph (53km/h) emoped that can be ridden as a class 1/2/3 ebike on bike trails or ridden like a moped on 35mph speed limit roads with traffic. It can even be pedaled like a traditional bike. It can be a cargo bike or a delivery bike. It’s a fun joy ride or it’s a great commuter and can provide fun exercise. It’s a little of everything.

Closer look at Juiced Bikes’ new 28 MPH ‘fun-sized’ RipRacer electric bike

Micah Toll - Nov. 14th 2021 1:01 am PT

Last week the San Diego-based electric bicycle company Juiced Bikes unveiled its newest e-bike, the RipRacer. The bike features a smaller frame and 20″ wheels, making it ideal for smaller riders and city dwellers that want an elevator-friendly, space-conscious ride.

Juiced Bikes’ founder and CEO Tora Harris gave us a closer look at the new e-bike in a video released on the company’s YouTube channel.

In the video, Tora showed off a 90% complete production prototype of the new RipRacer e-bike. The prototype has minor cosmetic differences from the production vehicle, which is expected to roll out early next year.

In the first up close look at the bike, Tora showed off the ‘fun-sized’ design along with the inspiration behind it.

Behind the scenes look at Juiced’s low-cost 28 MPH RipRacer electric bike production in China

Micah Toll - Jan. 23rd 2022 4:57 am PT

San Diego-based Juiced Bikes unveiled and then launched its newest e-bike model, the RipRacer, last November. Now the company’s founder and CEO Tora Harris is taking us on a behind-the-scenes look at how production is moving along in China.

The RipRacer was launched as a ‘fun-sized’ e-bike with smaller 20″ fat tires and a similarly smaller frame.

Unlike traditionally large fat tire e-bikes, the RipRacer is designed to be more nimble for agile urban riding, while still offering dirt and trail riding opportunities thanks to those fat tires.

It was launched in two versions: a Class 2 version of the bike that reaches speeds of up to 20 mph (32 km/h), and a Class 3 version that pushes the envelope even further with a top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h).

Juiced HyperScorpion review: The new king of 30+ MPH electric mopeds

Micah Toll - Oct. 8th 2020 9:28 am PT

The Juiced HyperScorpion is an electric bicycle… errr, electric moped, that completely embraces the growing trend of high powered electric bikes that blur the line with electric motorbikes.

Yes, it’s still an electric bicycle. It’s got two wheels, pedals, a chain, and can be pedaled all day to your heart’s content.

But it also offers a whole other level of fun and utility as an electric moped that actually deserves its place on the road with every other vehicle.

And therein lies the interesting duality of the Juiced HyperScorpion. It’s an electric bicycle and an electric motorbike all in one.

And that, my friends, is what makes it such a potent little EV for everyone from thrill riders to daily commuters.

28 MPH Juiced Scorpion moped-style electric bike begins deliveries

Micah Toll - Feb. 29th 2020 8:10 am ET

Late last year Juiced Bikes unveiled its latest electric bike model, the Juiced Scorpion.

The dual suspension, moped-style bike was pre-sold via an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. And nearly six months to the day after the Scorpion was first announced, it is now showing up in the driveways and garages of the first early adopters

Juiced RipRacer review: This fun-sized fat tire electric bike hits 28 mph in a nimble package

Micah Toll - May. 18th 2022 11:23 am PT

The descriptors “nimble” and “fat tire” rarely go together as well as they do with the Juiced RipRacer. This self-proclaimed fun-sized electric bike deftly combines the exhilaration of go-anywhere electric bikes with the convenience of small-format micromobility vehicles.

In doing so, it makes the RipRacer just as much of a utilitarian e-bike as it is a fun-loving adventure-riding runabout.

It may look small – and it kind of is – but the RipRacer still packs in everything we’ve come to know and love from California-based Juiced Bikes. That means big batteries, big motors, quality e-bike components, and a general disregard for plain old boring e-bike design.

Want to buy an e-bike with a safer UL battery? Your options are slim, but growing

Micah Toll - Apr 11 2023 12:32 pm PT

We’ve talked a lot about the increasing spate of fires related to light electric vehicles, including e-bikes, e-scooters, and other micromobility devices. But one Southern California-based e-bike company is now doing something about it by upgrading all of their batteries with UL certification. Juiced Bikes is now one of the few e-bike companies to offer UL-listed batteries, though the number is slowly growing.

It’s important to remember that the fire risk in electric bikes is incredibly low. There are millions of e-bikes in the US, but just 200 fires were reported from e-bike batteries in 2021 and 2022.

Even so, the few fires that have been reported can spread quickly due to the nature of Li-ion battery fires, which burn much more intensely than a traditional fire.

There is currently no state or federal requirement in the US for e-bikes to come with safety certification for their batteries. That is why many in the industry are urging electric bike manufacturers to voluntarily undergo such certification.

Bankruptcy

Famed e-bike company gone bankrupt sells to mystery buyer for $1.2M

Micah Toll - Oct 16 2024 9:55 am PT

Juiced Bikes, the much-lauded Southern California electric bicycle maker, appears to have been sold at auction for around US $1,225,000.

Or at least the company’s branding, intellectual property, remaining inventory and assets have been sold, with the actual status of the company still somewhat unclear.

While we still don’t have any official confirmation from the company, Juiced Bikes’ website has been out of stock for weeks and customers have been complaining that the company has gone radio silent with them.

When we recently reported on the apparent financial duress and potentially pending closure of the company last week, Juiced’s assets had just been put up for auction, removing what little doubt remained about the direction that the famed brand was headed.
