Taking a step toward a dream over a century in the making, New Hampshire became the first state in the nation to open its public highways to flying cars when Gov. Chris Sununu signed a transportation bill, HB 1182, into law.

Worried New Hampshire motorists, take note: The cars won’t be flying above your lane. Instead, the new law makes it possible for them to drive on public roads, taking pilots from airports to their final terrestrial destination.

A number of startups have promised to bring a drive-and-fly vehicle to market over the past few years, but none have yet managed to follow through. NFT Inc. is betting it will succeed where its rivals have failed, with preorders opening Thursday for ASKA, the company’s first electric flying car.

The SUV-sized ASKA ( which means “flying bird” in Japanese) may be better described as a plane that drives, rather than a car that flies. Even when its six rotors are folded closed, the vehicle has the unmistakable look of a flying craft, with a helicopter-esque bubble front window and a distinct tail that would be familiar to anyone who has flown on an airplane.

ASKA isn’t anticipated to be delivered until 2026, which is the point by which the company estimates regulations on safety and traffic control will have developed enough to support consumer use of new aerial mobility vehicles. A company spokesperson confirmed that NFT has already started receiving preorders for the vehicle, which comes with a $789,000 price tag that includes pilot training.

Where's our flying-car future? Maybe it's finally a little closer. AirCar, a prototype car-plane-thing from Klein Vision made a trip between Nitra and Bratislava airports in Slovakia. After 35 minutes in the air, and making the landing, its inventor clicked a button, the wings tucked in and he drove the car home straight from the tarmac.

The company has worked on hybrid aircraft for more than 30 years. With 142 successful landings and 40-plus hours of test flights under its belt, Professor Stefan Klein is convinced that his third prototype is ready to go into pre-production.

 Beleaguered rush hour commuters desperately looking to future flying taxis to deliver their traffic salvation are in for some potentially bad news.

In a statement sent to Reuters and confirmed by Gizmodo, the Federal Aviation Administration says it’s modifying its regulatory approach for pilots of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. This emerging aircraft category would include so called air taxis. Under the new categorization, the FAA says it will begin to certify eVTOLs as powered-lift aircraft, a change from previous regulations which would have seen the vehicles certified as “light aircraft,” according to industry trade magazine Flying.

The Switchblade has been a work in progress for 14 years

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Flying cars are something humans have been dreaming of for the last century. In Redmond, that dream is about to become a reality. 

The Switchblade, an aircraft that doubles as a car, is just weeks away from getting its wheels off the ground after a Federal Aviation Administration inspection on July 15 determined the invention is safe to fly. 

The project has been 14 years in the making, and Sam Bousfield, CEO of Samson Sky and inventor of the Switchblade, said he’s “stoked” to reach this milestone. After passing the FAA inspection, his team wasted no time in beginning the high-speed taxi test. They were out on the taxiway the next day.
